Becki and Johnny moved back to the family farm nearly twenty years ago and after years of planning opened Camping at Cardewlees in 2019.
Diversification is key for the future of farms and the amazing views and location meant that it was an obvious choice when planning the farms future.
Becki loves being outside and had hoped to buy a motorhome to tour in before the campsite was open, whereas Johnny being a farmer considers that he already spends too much time outside and he only begrudgingly camps when Becki and the children insist on it.
However, both really enjoy sharing their home with you and are always on hand if you should need anything. Becki happily sends Johnny down to help many a first time camper or anyone else that should need it.
We should say we love working together, but we don’t all the time 🤣 but we do love meeting everyone from all walks of life. We also enjoy being reminded how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world. I suppose we take the view and local area for granted so it is good to be reminded.
Johnny’s favourite thing to do when he isn’t working it’s to visit a farm sale and by more machinery that will sit about and make the place look untidy. Becki likes to visit Ullswater either for a swim or to take the paddleboards out.
We walk in the village a lot, often through the old industrial estate and finishing off on the green with a paddle in the river Caldew.
Make sure to visit the honesty shop for all your campfire needs.
